House Alarm Systems - Reviews & Choosing Guide
Having an alarm
system installed into your home can be the most practical way to keep your house
safe from intruders. Although the safety it provides can be for preventative
measures only, this can greatly contribute to discourage burglars and criminals
from entering your home. Though they would still have the chance to break in to
your home even if the alarm goes off, it is more likely that they would not
spend too much time inside. This would reduce the damages they can do to your
property.
A good security alarm system is commonly combined with motion detectors
installed on possible points of entry for intruders such as doors and windows.
House alarm systems are connected with magnetic contacts and motion sensors that
are used to detect trespassers who want to enter your home without your
knowledge. Aside from the motion sensors, you can also install glass break
sensors for additional security. Although motion sensors are effective in
detecting intruders, it is not advisable to use them as your primary security
measure since they are only efficient if the trespassers are already inside your
home.
Components of an Effective House Alarm System
Setting up an alarm system to back up your surveillance system or CCTV cameras
should have the following components in order for it to work effectively in
protecting your home:
• Control panel – All house alarm systems have this as the main component. The
control panel houses the system wiring and the backup battery. If the alarm
system is connected to a remote monitoring station, the control panel is also
attached to the phone lines. This allows the alarm system to notify the security
company about the disturbances immediately.
• Keypad – This is used to toggle the switch of the alarm system. This is often
located in a secured area inside your home or is connected via your mobile
phone.
• Door and Window Contacts – These devices are designed to trigger the alarm if
the door or window is opened. Just make sure that you have set the system on
before you leave in order for the contacts to work properly.
• Motion Detectors – Even though the intruders have bypassed the contacts
installed on the windows and doors, these motion sensors can effectively detect
human presence inside your home. You can also choose advanced motion detectors
that can identify pets. This is to prevent any false alarms triggered by your
pets roaming around your house.
• Siren – As with other alarming devices, a siren is necessary to produce an
audible sound to inform your neighbors about the intrusion. Moreover, an
effective siren can also scare away the trespassers thus it is also advisable to
choose the best one for your alarm system.
Other additional devices that you can also consider into your house alarm system
are panic buttons, smoke detectors, pressure mats, CCTV cameras and alarm
screens. Installing all these devices inside your home would definitely
discourage trespassers from considering your home as target for their malicious
actions. |
